iGet 2.7.1 addresses problems with Bonjour networking, and other issues

June 5, 2008

iGet 2.7.1 is the latest maintenance update to the Mac file transfer tool, addressing problems with local network browsing and other issues. It is recommended for all users.

What's new in this version:

  • Corrected an issue where iGet could become confused about the state of the local network, and become unable to connect to other Macs via the "Local Network" browser. If this occurred, the New Connection window would remain stuck displaying the message "Resolving Bonjour address" until the connection was cancelled.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause iGet to list multiple entries for the same Mac in its local network browser.
  • Fixed a bug that would cause the Recent Connections list to malfunction after being sorted by username or address, whereby clicking on an item in the list would improperly result in a different item being selected.
  • Certain alert and warning messages have been edited for clarity.

iGet 2.7 improves performance, fixes bugs, and adds enhancements for Mac OS X 10.5

February 11, 2008

iGet 2.7, the latest update to the Mac file transfer tool, introduces enhanced behavior when running on Mac OS X 10.5, along with several performance and stability improvements.

What's new in this version:

  • Performance of file transfers involving many small files (including file and application packages) has been improved.
  • When running on Mac OS X 10.5 or later, the default location for downloaded items is now the user's Downloads folder. (Any existing setting will not be modified, however.)
  • Several user interface elements, including explanatory and informational sheets for cases like invalid user input, have been greatly improved.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause Automator actions to fail on Mac OS X 10.5.
  • Eliminated spurious "mdworker: unable to parse schema" messages that may have been written to the system log under Mac OS X 10.5.
  • Fixed a serious bug that in rare circumstances could cause a connection to fail, or cause a crash.
  • Several other minor improvements.

iGet 2.6.2 improves navigation, stability

May 15, 2007

iGet 2.6.2 is a maintenance release, which incorporates several improvements over the previous version.

Fixes and improvements in this version:

  • Fixed a bug which could cause iGet to fail to navigate to the correct folder on the remote Mac when opening an iGet Favorite from the New Connection window, rather than using the Favorites window or menu.
  • This version corrects a problem which could cause iGet to crash while negotiating a connection using key-based authentication, if its windows were reordered during the connection process. This was especially likely to happen with Little Snitch installed (although the fault was entirely iGet's).
  • The New Connection window can now be closed via the window's normal close button, or ⌘W. Any connection that is in progress when the window is closed will be cancelled. The Cancel button continues to work as before.
  • Corrected some issues with keyboard navigation of the UI. Notably, this fixes bugs that prevented using the Shift and/or Option keys in conjunction with the arrow keys to navigate or modify the selection in the files list.
  • Updated various identifiers used by iGet, in order to address issues whereby iGet could become dissociated from its document files (e.g., iGet shortcut files).

iGet 2.6.1 improves stability when using iGet on local networks

April 10, 2007

iGet 2.6.1 contains an important bug fix, correcting an issue which could cause iGet to unexpectedly quit.

Changes, fixes and improvements in this version:

  • This version addresses an issue which could cause iGet to unexpectedly quit while browsing some networks using Bonjour (crash logs would reference "_netServiceBrowserDispatchCallback"). This problem was more likely to occur on LANs with many Macs.

iGet 2.6 introduces a new look, and other enhancements

March 12, 2007

iGet 2.6 is a maintenance update that improves recent-connection tracking, corrects several minor issues, and updates the software's visual appearance with improved icons and graphics.

Changes, fixes and improvements in this version:

  • The Recent Connections tab in the connection dialog now allows deleting unwanted items from the list (via the Delete key).
  • Performance is improved when the number of recent connections is large (hundreds of different Macs).
  • This version incorporates newer, more modern graphics and icons for the preferences, main toolbar, and contextual menus.
  • Fixed a bug that sometimes caused iGet to replace the user-entered password with the last-used password at connect time. This would cause the first connection attempt to fail, when connecting to a Mac on which the password had been changed.
  • Fixed a bug that would cause iGet not to 'forget' the public key authentication information, even after disabling public key authentication.
  • Fixed two theoretical crash bugs discovered via code audit (ones which probably did not occur in the real world, but theoretically could have).
  • Various identifiers and text in the user interface has been updated to reflect that iGet is now published by Nakahara Informatics, Inc.
  • iGet's preference-handling code has been updated. Preferences will be migrated automatically, but are now stored in the preferences file named 'com.nakahara-informatics.iget' rather than 'com.fivespeed.iget'.

iGet 2.5.5 offers improvements to file browsing, and bug fixes

February 15, 2007

iGet 2.5.5 is a maintenance release, featuring improvements to file browsing and bug fixes.

Fixes and improvements in this version:

  • Fixed a bug that would sometimes cause iGet to open new windows in descending sort order (Z to A). New windows now correctly display in ascending sort order until changed by the user.
  • By popular demand, iGet now defaults to descending sort when sorting by Date Modified, Date Created, or Size. (It turns out that this is the user's intention in the vast majority of cases when sorting by these specific criteria, unlike sorting by Name, Kind, etc.).
  • Fixed a potential crash that could occur when opening several different connections simultaneously.
  • Improved performance when creating new windows, eliminating a slight delay that was noticeable on slower Macs (e.g., G3 or G4 processors) in previous releases.

iGet 2.5.4

January 24, 2007

iGet 2.5.4 is a maintenance release, which corrects certain issues with resuming file transfers, and fixes several minor bugs.

Fixes and improvements in this version:

  • Fixed a bug that in some circumstances would cause iGet to display a spurious error message ("This file is already being downloaded...") and prevent resuming a file transfer until the user restarted iGet. This could occur when the Internet connection went down unexpectedly or the remote Mac was restarted during a file transfer.
  • Corrected a problem where iGet might be unable to automatically connect when double-clicking a Mac in the Local Network browser. Instead it would log an exception to the console and do nothing. This bug would 'fix itself' after the user established a connection manually, but now it is really fixed.
  • In some situations, previous versions of iGet could display two alert sheets, when in fact only one alert was necessary, e.g. when unplugging an Ethernet cable while transferring a file.
  • Corrected an issue where iGet could display certain informational alerts that might contain inappropriate (PG-13 rated) language.
  • Corrected a recent regression that could degrade performance when transferring many thousands of files at once, when a significant percentage included resource forks.
  • Several performance enhancements have been realized.

iGet 2.5.3

December 15, 2006

iGet 2.5.3 is a maintenance release, which corrects certain issues with Automator support and adds some new documentation, including new step-by-step tutorials for setting up a home or office network for remote access, and tutorials for getting started with Automator.

Fixes and improvements in this build:

  • Fixed a bug that could cause Automator workflows created with iGet to fail when the workflow executed long-running file transfers, even when the file transfer itself actually succeeded.
  • Created new detailed tutorials for commonly-encountered networking scenarios, to help users set up their home or office networks for remote access. These tutorials address two of the most common questions we receive: how to set up port forwarding, and how to set up dynamic DNS. A basic networking primer is also included.
  • Added tutorials based on user-supplied Automator workflows, to help interested users get started using iGet in their Automator workflows.

iGet 2.5.2

December 8, 2006

iGet 2.5.2 is a quick follow-up maintenance release which corrects some issues which were introduced in the recent iGet update, along with an older bug. This update is recommended for all iGet users.

Fixes and improvements in this build:

  • Fixed a recently-introduced bug that would prevent the "Show/Hide Invisible Items" from taking effect immediately (would not take effect until a new file browsing window was created, or a new connection to a remote Mac was made.)
  • Fixed a similar bug involving "Increase/Decrease Font Size" command, whereby the font would not change until another window was opened.
  • Fixed a long-standing bug with that caused iGet to consider some remote files to be invisible, even when they were actually not. This bug affected certain files at the root level of a hard disk or in a FileVault home directory; if, for example, you are browsing a FileVault home directory on a remote Mac which contains a folder named "bin", you no longer have to Show Invisible Items in order to see it.

iGet 2.5.1

December 6, 2006

iGet 2.5.1 is a maintenance release of the Mac file transfer tool. This release introduces enhancements to remote Spotlight search, offers improved user support, and corrects certain issues.

Fixes and improvements in this build:

  • When searching a remote Mac using Spotlight, the search results list has been improved to make it easy to navigate to the parent folder of any item, the same way as it works for regular (non-search) directory listings.
  • Improved the speed of remote searching in some circumstances.
  • iGet now has an online support forum, and it is now available via the Help menu.
  • Fixed a potential crasher due to undefined symbol in some (very uncommon) error cases.
  • Corrected a potential display glitch involving windows that had been used to search a remote Mac but never had any results found before the connection was closed.

iGet 2.5

November 14, 2006

iGet 2.5 is a major update which includes significant improvements in the user interface, brings performance enhancements and bug fixes, and introduces some new advanced SSH authentication options. Enhancements in this version include:

Redesigned New Connection interface:

  • iGet now displays the local network (Bonjour), the list of favorite connections, and the list of recent connections in the New Connection window.
  • Double-clicking a remote Mac in any of the lists now immediately connects if iGet knows how to authenticate (if the password is in the Keychain or if iGet can connect via the new public key authentication support).
  • The typing auto-completion behavior when entering connection information manually has been refined. In particular, iGet now always suggests an appropriate username when you change the hostname
  • The checkbox to control whether or not iGet uses the Keychain to save (and load) passwords has been enlarged and disambiguated. This change makes it clearer when you are not saving the password (e.g. when using somebody else's Mac to connect to your own).

SSH public key authentication support:

By popular demand, iGet now supports advanced authentication via SSH public key encryption (instead of using a password). This includes:

  • connecting to a remote Mac using public key encryption, via keys defined in a standard OpenSSH key file
  • optionally decrypting the key file on the fly (the passphrase is stored in the Keychain)
  • a new Security preferences pane for enabling key-based authentication and specifying your key file

Improvements to iGet Favorites and Shortcut files:

The Favorites list in is implemented using iGet shortcuts. So the improvements to shortcut files apply to Favorites as well.

  • There is a new window providing a brand new user interface for managing favorites. Favorites can now be created, edited, deleted, or saved to disk.
  • iGet shortcut files are now indexed by Spotlight.
  • iGet shortcut files can now have user-defined notes associated with them.
  • The Favorites list is now available from the iGet dock menu.
  • The Favorites menu (and new dock menu) now use more informative menu item titles, including not only the remote Mac name/hostname, but also the remote folder name and remote user account name.

Other Enhancements:

  • The date column in the files list window now intelligently reformats the date to fit the width of the column (e.g. "November 1, 2006" becomes "11/13/06" when the column is resized to a narrow width).
  • The explanatory text of some alerts has been improved.
  • Text editing now supports undo when entering hostnames, usernames, and passwords.
  • iGet now automatically expands the files window as necessary when a new search is started.
  • Improved the UI for selecting the default download location.
  • iGet's preferences window has been reorganized, to accommodate new options.
  • The Get Info function no longer opens multiple windows for the same remote item (instead the existing window is brought to the front).

Bugs Fixed:

  • Corrected a display issue with progress indicator in the Get Info window.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause iGet to unexpectedly disconnect when uploading to a remote Mac whose hard disk is full. It now correctly reports that the transfer could not be completed, but remains connected .
  • Two small memory leaks have been fixed.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause iGet to crash if the user left the remote Mac fingerprint confirmation sheet on the screen for several minutes, then came back to the Mac and pressed Accept and Save after the remote Mac had timed out the connection attempt.
  • Fixed a bug with tabbing and shift-tabbing between fields in the remote Spotlight search windows when configuring a search query.
  • Corrected a bug which could cause iGet to crash, or display a cryptic error message, if a connection was cancelled while the connection was still being established.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause iGet to fail to resolve a domain name until a new connection window was opened.
  • A few other minor bugs, and typographical errors have been corrected.

iGet 2.1.1

June 20, 2006

iGet 2.1.1 introduces specific user-requested enhancements to iGet's automated file transfer capabilities, improvements to the interface for remote Spotlight searching, and minor bug fixes.

Enhancements and Fixes in iGet 2.1.1:

  • iGet's AppleScript dictionary has been expanded to allow specifying the "conflict resolution" for automated transfers. This allows scripts to handle automatic file transfers of items which already exist on the remote Mac, but cannot be resumed because the files are different. If conflicts are encountered, scripts can now specify whether to skip conflicting items, move them to the trash, cancel the transfer, or prompt the user.
  • iGet's Automator actions have been enhanced to allow specifying of the new conflict resolutions using the Automator GUI.
  • Fixed bug that could cause Automator-based downloads to fail with an error in workflows which did not specify a local download folder.
  • Made some minor interface enhancements to Spotlight searching.
  • Some bugs that could cause display glitches have been corrected.

iGet 2.1

June 7, 2006

iGet 2.1 adds several enhancements requested by users, and also delivers a number of bug fixes and enhanced reliability and ease of use. This update is recommended to all iGet users.

Enhancements and Fixes in iGet 2.1:

  • iGet features a new "set-it-and-forget-it" Software Update system, which can not only check for new versions (which it could previously do), but can also download and install such updates, including doing that automatically. We recommend that all users take advantage of the new system to keep iGet up to date automatically.
  • iGet features a brand new preferences interface, as the number of user-adjustable preferences has outgrown the original one-pane design.
  • The Send Feedback function has been enhanced to (optionally) collect important system configuration information. This can be very useful in helping our support staff diagnose certain configuration problems that may prevent iGet from connecting in some cases.
  • Some memory leaks have been corrected.
  • Fixed a rare but serious bug whereby iGet could suddenly consume a lot of the Mac's CPU power and become unresponsive during some file transfers involving uploading large packages. This bug could make iGet appear to have crashed, although it would recover once the file transfer had completed.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause incorrect icon display for transferred files, by preventing the Finder from noticing that the icon for a transferred file should be updated when the file transfer was completed. This bug usually hit *after* the first file was transferred, and would cause the Finder to display the partially-transferred file icon until at some later time the Finder "notice" that the file had actually been updated.
  • Fixed a bug whereby in some cases the files table would not have keyboard focus when a new files window was opened.
  • iGet does a better job of reporting unusual errors which may be encountered early in a connection (e.g., because of permissions problems on the remote Mac).
  • iGet can now rename remote files which contain a slash ("/") in their display name (the name shown by the Finder). There are, however, still a couple of issues relating to making iGet mimic the way the Finder allows this character to be in filenames. We plan to make iGet behave more like the Finder (in allowing files to appear to have a slash in their names) in a future release.
  • Fixed an interface issue where switching to search mode, then back to viewing the remote home directory, then back again to search mode all within the same window would cause the search UI to disappear.
  • Fixed an Intel-specific bug which could cause some sheets to appear at the wrong size.
  • Corrected a problem which could impede searching for remote files using the criteria "Flash On/Off", "File Extension Hidden" and some similar properties whose values are chosen via pop-up menu
  • Remote Spotlight searching is now smarter about interpreting dates in human terms. Searches like "within past week" now extend the search back to midnight of the first day within the date range, and always include the full 24 hours of the current day.
  • Several user interface enhancements to remote Spotlight searching.
  • Various other improvements to the user interface and documentation.

iGet 2.0.5

February 1, 2006

iGet 2.0.5 is the result of a packaging error on our part. For about thirty minutes on February 1, 2006, an incorrectly-built iGet 2.0.4 disk image was accidentally made available on our web server. This meant that although the file claimed to be the iGet 2.0.4 disk image, it was corrupt.

Because there is no reasonable way for users who have downloaded such a file to tell it apart from a corrected file, our policy in this situation is to package and release a new version. Our apologies to the hundred or so users who downloaded the bogus 2.0.4 disk image before we were able to correct the error. All users should upgrade as normal to version 2.0.5.

Enhancements and Fixes in iGet 2.0.5:

  • None, except that it is guaranteed not to be the corrupt version of 2.0.4 that was accidentally distributed. (See the notes for 2.0.4 for more info on recent improvements.)

iGet 2.0.4

February 1, 2006

iGet 2.0.4 is a maintenance update which fixes several bugs. A potentially very annoying bug was introduced in the previous version, which could cause drag-and-drop between iGet and the Finder to stop working. iGet 2.0.4 corrects this, and addresses several other minor bugs as well.

Enhancements and Fixes in iGet 2.0.4:

  • Fixed a recent bug causing the Finder to reject drags from iGet (dragged files would just "bounce back" to iGet's file window).
  • Fixed some minor issues which could cause incorrect text alignment in certain situations.
  • Eliminated yet more unnecessary log statements (hidden by their own little logging macro, aha!) which could annoyingly pollute the Console log without a good reason. (And, the responsible programmer was given a stern talking to, including finger-wagging and dessert-withholding).
  • Fixed a problem which, if a million monkeys performed an infinite number of random iGet remote Spotlight searches for eternity, might eat up much more memory than necessary.
  • Fixed an issue where the optional software update check might not react correctly until the second time it noticed a new version of iGet was available.

iGet 2.0.3

January 19, 2006

iGet 2.0.3 is a maintenance update focused on performance and reliability enhancements. This update is recommended for all users.

Enhancements and Fixes in iGet 2.0.3:

  • Improved file transfer performance.
  • Added Apple's new Universal logo where appropriate to disambiguate architecture support (iGet has been a Universal Binary since November of 2005).
  • Fixed a bug that could cause incorrect progress bar display in certain circumstances.
  • There are some further gains in remote Spotlight search performance.
  • Multi-seat licenses are now more convenient to deploy.
  • Several minor improvements to the user interface.

iGet 2.0.2

November 16, 2005

iGet 2.0.2 is a maintenance update focused on enhancing the performance and reliability of remote Spotlight search. Notably, this update fixes a bug which could prevent iGet from displaying all of the results found when searching a remote Mac.

This update is recommended for all users.

iGet 2.0.1

November 9, 2005

iGet 2.0.1 features some enhancements that didn't make it into version 2.0, along with fixes for a few potentially annoying bugs and several other minor issues discovered after the iGet 2.0 release. All users are encouraged to update as soon as possible.

Enhancements and Fixes in iGet 2.0.1:

  • iGet is now a compiled as a Universal Binary, offering native peformance on Intel-based Macs (while remaining fully native on PowerPC-based Macs). Its helper tool is now also architecture-specific, bringing dramatic performance improvements when connecting to an Intel-based Mac.
  • Improved keyboard shortcut support: previously, keyboard shortcuts that used the Option key to perform an action in a new window could not be remapped using the Keyboard pane in System Preferences. This has been fixed. Option-clicking a toolbar button still causes the operation to use a new window, regardless of how menu commands may have been remapped.
  • The New Connection dialog is now resizable when the local network browser is visible, allowing users on large networks to see more computers at a time if desired.
  • The New Connection dialog now allows you to type-to-select in the list of local Macs (e.g., typing "Pow" will select the first Mac whose name starts with those letters, and scroll it into view).
  • Fixed an issue where the local network browser could display local Macs in random order instead of alphabetically.
  • Fixed an annoying bug that caused a custom port number to "stick" so that iGet could not attempt a connection to a different port until another New Connection window was created.
  • Several improvements to iGet's internal Spotlight support framework, fixing several cosmetic issues and minor bugs.
  • Improved consistency of file transfer status display.
  • Fixed an issue that caused debug messages to be logged to the system log on the remote Mac.
  • Fixed issue that prevented entering a username when connecting via an iGet Shortcut saved without one.
  • Fixed a problem that could cause an extra window to be opened when connecting using an iGet Shortcut file.
  • Improved the iGet Help documentation.
  • The "Enter Registration Code" menu item now correctly goes away after entering a valid registration code. It's replaced with a "Registration Info" menu tiem which allows you to view your registration details.
  • The iGet application package no longer includes unneccessary header files.
  • Fixed issue with "Manage Favorites..." command when no favorites has been defined.
  • Fixed issue with "Reveal" command when downloaded file no longer exists.
  • Spotlight: fixed issue where some useless disabled items might appear in contextual menus, such as "Upload to (null)".

iGet 2.0

October 20, 2005

iGet 2.0 is a major new release, introducing many major new features, enhancements, and incorporating several bug fixes. This release is free to all licensed users of iGet 1.x, as a token of thanks for supporting iGet's first release.

Major New Features:

  • Remote Spotlight Searching allows you to search remote Macs as easily as your local Mac. We've built support for Spotlight right into the iGet Network Protocol, making remote searching very fast and very responsive.
  • Automator actions allow you to harness iGet's powerful no-hassle file transfer capabilities from within your workflows.
  • iGet Shortcut Files allow you to save quick-access shortcuts to specific folders on remote Macs.
  • URL Support means that you can use URLS, and whatever tools you use that understand URLs, to make iGet connections and download files.
  • Favorites Menu keeps a list of your frequently-used connections for instant access.
  • Intel Ready: iGet 2.0 is 100% native on Intel processors as well as PowerPC, and a Universal Binary version is available now to licensed users.

Improvements to Browsing Remote Macs and Transferring Files:

  • iGet now features protocol-level support for the Mac's unique IconServices technology, allowing it to display each item's true icon, including custom icons, efficiently (each unique icon needs to be transmitted only once, and in a separate pass so that it never slows down your browsing).
  • File transfer progress display now includes throughput (transfer speed) and estimated time remaining.
  • There is a new preference to limit the number of simultaneous file transfers.
  • It is now possible to rearrange the order of pending file transfers, or start them immediately.
  • Incomplete or cancelled file transfers can now be resumed from within the File Transfers window (like Safari).
  • Remote file listings can now display Finder label colors of remote items.
  • You can now change the visible columns by right-clicking on a table column header in the Files window.

Improvements to Networking and Security:

  • Networking enhancements provide even better speed on real-workd Internet connections.
  • iGet's SSH encryption subsystem has been improved.
  • Advanced users may now specify a custom port number, allowing more flexibility for multi-machine port-forwarding and other network configurations.
  • Bonjour (formerly Rendezvous) support is more robust, and has new capabilities (including Bonjour-based shortcut files).
  • iGet now prevents connections closing even when idle for long periods of time. (This is expecially helpful with certain router models which aggressively close idle SSH-based connections when using port-forarding.)

Enhancements to the User Interface:

  • New Smart Path Display widget displays the current location and allows jumping back to any parent folder in one click.
  • Several file browsing performance improvements allow even faster navigation.
  • Improved "look-and-feel" not only looks better, but also allows new users to grok iGet almost instantly. (In many cases you can train your staff in seconds, not hours!)
  • File lists now use alternating row colors, truncates text in the middle, handles font-size changes more smoothly, and other various visual improvements.

Other Improvements:

  • Added support for Growl, the popular user notification system.
  • Improved icon display for partially downloaded file packages which are not applications.
  • Improved the consistency of some confirmation warnings displayed to the user in certain cases.
  • Improved connection naming: suffix numbers are now only added when necessary.
  • The Help menu now contains a link to the iGet Support web site.
  • Remote file operations such as move and copy now preserve ACLs if the remote OS version supports them (Mac OS X 10.4 and later).
  • Bonjour name resolution now times out when it cannot resolve a named host, rather than trying forever.
  • iGet can now alert you when a newer version is available for download.

Bug Fixes in iGet 2.0:

  • Fixed error whereby iGet could sometimes connect to the local machine, instead of the remote Mac specified.
  • Fixed problem whereby several dialogs could appear in the wrong place on the screen in some situations.
  • Fixed issue where deleting item could cause a ".Trash" folder to show up in the home folder, even if invisible files were not supposed to be shown.
  • The Get Info window no longer sometimes reports the type of a symbolic link to a file as "invalid symbolic link" when that's not true.
  • Fixed issue where file transfers could fail with an error when encountering file locked a certain way by other apps, rather than just skipping the unreadable file. The most common example of this was trying to transfer a folder containing an iTunes Library file which had been modified.
  • The spinning progress indicator in the files window no longer keeps spinning after a connection is unexpectedly closed while refreshing a files window.
  • Fixed bug that could cause the progress bar in the New Connection dialog to keep animating even after certain connection errors.
  • Fixed issue that could cause a half-second delay when opening new windows under Mac OS X 10.4.
  • Fixed theoretical security issue.
  • Fixed issue that caused some invisible files in the root level of a hard disk to appear as visible on Mac OS X 10.4 and later.

iGet 1.1.1

October 19, 2004

iGet 1.1.1 is a maintenance release, featuring a handful of fixes and minor improvements.

New features and improvements:
  • File Transfers: skipping a conflicting package would not work in certain cases
  • File Transfers: skipping conflicts would prevent non-conflicting items from being transferred in certain cases
  • File Transfers: very large number of conflicting items could prevent uploads from completing
  • File Transfers: minor improvements to interface when handling conflicts
  • Files List: "Go to Folder" feature now accepts relative paths
  • Connection Dialog: Keyboard navigation order with Tab key was incorrect
  • Documentation: minor improvements

iGet 1.1

September 7, 2004

iGet 1.1 features an enhanced connection dialog, makes it more convenient to use iGet on Macs other than your own, and allows path-based navigation, among other improvements. The update also addresses several minor issues discovered after the iGet 1.0 release.

New features and improvements:
  • Connection Dialog: optionally remembers the last-used connection information, and automatically fills in this information for new connections
  • Connection Dialog: There is a new checkbox which can disable the use of the Keychain for a single connection.
  • Files List: "Go to Folder" sheet allows user to quickly navigate to a folder by typing its path
  • Clarified the text displayed when connecting to a remote Mac for the first time, to be more specific about what iGet is doing when it copies its support files to the remote Mac. (This info was always available by clicking the Help button.)
  • A "Read Me" file is now installed in ~/Application Support/iGet, explaining the purpose of each automatically copied support file.
  • The feedback submission window now (optionally) remembers the last email address used
  • Several updates to the documentation, FAQ, and contextual help, based on user feedback.
  • Registered iGet users may now join the iGet Pre-release Software Test program, if desired. (Existing users may contact technical support to inquire/join.)
  • Feedback submission window now allows newlines to be entered with the Return key (sorry!)
  • Fixed a broken link in iGet Help (Files window reference section)
  • Conflict Dialog: tooltips were incorrect for download conflict (they referred to upload)
  • Connection Dialog: fixed rare issue where progress bar would not go away in some cases where it should
  • Certain error dialogs in the final 1.0 version inappropriately referred to the iGet testing program

iGet 1.0

June 30, 2004

iGet 1.0 was the first publicly released version of iGet.
